Blake's Last Day of First Grade!
I can't quite figure out how this happened so quickly, but Blake had his last day of school today. Andy and I took him to school to give his teachers their gifts and I tried my hardest to get a picture of him with his buddies. He told me that I was embarrassing him and ran off, but some of the little girls in his class were happy to fill in! We stayed for an annual event that the graduating 5th graders do every year, which is an "egg drop". They all take a raw egg and wrap it up as well as they can using lots of creativity (think parachutes made from plastic grocery bags), and then the custodian gets up on the roof and drops the eggs down onto a giant target shaped like a fried egg! The kids whose eggs stay intact get a prize. Andy watched all this for a few minutes and then decided that he wanted to stand in the middle of the egg target...we had to go inside so he wouldn't get hit by a flying egg!
Fun and Games!
We went to the mall Tuesday afternoon to find some end-of-the-year gifts for Blake's teachers
and of course we had to make a pitstop at the play area. Can you believe Blake's skinny little legs? He's growing so fast, he can't eat enough to pad his bones! Andy's favorite thing to do at the play area is to step on each of the big letters printed on the floor mat and say their names...he's really learning his letters, their sounds, and his numbers lately! He takes after his cousin Jack when he sings the alphabet song and adds a high-pitched flourish at the end!
Hot Wheels--Beat That!
A Bacon and Eggs Kind of Mother's Day
Rich and the boys took me to The Macaroni Grill for Mother's Day and we had a great time! Blake had decided that he wanted to get me a purse as his gift, so they went shopping and he picked out this awesome bag. Rich said that he thought it was hysterical when he saw it in the store, and I have to agree!

Rich's Birthday
Rich had a really fun birthday on Tuesday! He got a bunch of great gifts: two boxes of golf balls, a big bag of chocolate chip cookies, a cool multi-screwdriver tool from the boys, a driving range gift card, a subscription to National Geographic, some cigars and a humidor. Andy helped Rich open all his gifts; he was pretty upset when he realized that none of the presents for him and that not one of them contained a train...he riffled through all the boxes for a long time before he finally gave up on finding a toy! We had quite a feast with steak, fried okra, corn on the cob, poppyseed cake and homemade black cherry ice cream...yum!
Morning Routine
Blake's First Visit From the Tooth Fairy
It's hard to believe he's old enough, but Blake lost his first tooth last Friday night! He'd been wiggling his bottom front tooth for a couple of weeks and it was hanging from a thread. After reminding him about the Tooth Fairy, he finally agreed to let me pull it out. The next morning he discovered that she had left him a whole dollar! His other bottom front tooth is slightly loose, so he's been wiggling it with gusto!
